Over the last five months, Food Banks across the country have reported an increase in the number of people accessing their services.
In an effort to help the food Bank and Egg Farmers, Nutri Group is joining the Government of Canada’s Surplus Food Rescue Program.
Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-food, announced that eight organizations will receive $50 million to buy, at cost, surpluses from Canadian farmers and food processors.
Food Banks Canada and Second Harvest will receive more and 1 million dozen Eggs from Nutri Group and their partners to help feed people in 4700 communities across the country.
The program will help egg producers who have been hit by the decreased demand caused by the slow down in the hospitality industry because of Covid-19.
“This is a win-win. Not only are we helping producers who cannot sell their goods to restaurants, but we are also aiding Canadians that have had to seek help from food banks,” said Bibeau.
